Comments of the Week: 'Thanks for Adding Insult to Injury, Neighbor!'
Check out the best, funniest, strangest and most informative things our readers have to say.

We take pride in our work here at Patch and always strive to bring our readers interesting news. However, we must admit, sometimes the most interesting part of a great Patch story is the comments from readers that it sparks.
Here are some of the best, funniest, strangest and most informative comments from Patch stories around the San Gabriel Valley and Crescenta Valley Patch sites this past week:
3 Guns, Cash, Jewelry Stolen in Home Burglary
South Pasadena Police are looking for two men they believe swiped some Smith & Wesson weapons, cash and jewelry from a home in the 1300 block of Oak Street. Our story on this crime sparked our most memorable give-and-take in the comments section this week, with the alleged victim chiming in. (We cannot confirm if the commenter is in fact the actual victim.) Reader Alex Evans gets our Comment of the Week award, Check it out:

I assume these men stole the big safe these guns were stored in!!!
Otherwise, the person should be put in jail for leaving weapons out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They did indeed steal the safe, Tom! Thanks for adding insult to injury, neighbor! I sure hope this never happens to you or anyone else that's reading! I'd like to think I'd be a little more sensitive about it if it did. It's certainly not a crime to own a gun. But hey, thanks for your unsolicited commentary!

I'm glad you keep your weapons in a safe. It's good to know you were being diligent with yours. I'm sorry that it happened to you. I don't like seeing anyone getting their house broken into. And I believe it's every citizens right to own handguns and rifles and bows....

Thank you, Tom. It's been a difficult week. My children are afraid to be alone anywhere in the house. It's a small town, and I don't really want them to hear that the neighbors feel their dad is a criminal on top of it all. Thanks for your response. It means a lot, really.
City's Cutting of Ficus Trees Has San Marino on Opposite Sides of the Street
The city of San Marino recently chopped down 35 decades-old ficus trees along Huntington Drive due to complaints from business owners that the trees' berries were making too much of a mess.
Every Patch site, as its top banner, picks a photo of its town or city that best represents it, and it seems we may need a new photo for San Marino Patch, as this reader pointed out:

It is sad and ironic that the headline photo of San Marino Patch is of the canopy of an old Huntington Drive Ficus tree.
Opinion Boards
The Opinion Board is a place that readers can sound off on, well, just about anything they like. We also have an Announcement Board, Buy/Sell/Trade and Business Updates. Here are some interesting Board posts:
A Patch reporter visited the new Peppertree Grill in Sierra Madre recently. One of our readers also paid a visit, but was not pleased:
Posted by Marta Kouzouyan, June 25, 2013 at 11:32 am
My daughter and I visited the new Peppertree. Granted, it was before the grand opening date. Most of what we wanted was not available (at that time), so we had a quick bite and left. After the opening, we went again, this time with my husband. We ordered an appetizer and drinks. When the drinks came, We were informed that the appetizer we ordered "would take too long to prepare." We ordered another and began to choose our entrees. Some time later, the server informed us they didn't have all the ingredients for our second choice. My husband was really upset. After half an hour, we still didn't even have an appetizer! One of the owners came to tell us we didn't have to pay or the drinks, but it was too late. My husband put the drink $$ on the table, and we left to see the film we had planned to view, with no time for dinner. We haven't been back, and I know my husband never will. Restaurants should never open until they are ready to accommodate their patrons. A first impression really lasts. 322 - we miss you!!
Finally, reader Jayne Kendal is upset that her car was allegedly broken into and her credit cars were stolen. So upset that she posted a $500 reward and and photos of the alleged thieves on San Marino Patch's Announcement Board:
These women broke into my car at 24 Hour Fitness Aliso Viejo Super Sport 6/18 at 5:30 pm. They then went to multiple retailers and used my id and credit cards. It has been a nightmare and I am not alone. They have done this to several people. I am the first to have a picture of them. Please email me helpme9400@gmail.com
if you have any information to help identify these women.
