Mater Dolorosa Center Considering Sale of Land for Housing Development

A meeting of concerned citizens is held in Sierra Madre on Monday night.

The Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, a sprawling natural preserve that serves as a retreat location for members of area Catholic parishes, is considering building a housing project on the 88-acre property, the Mountain Views News reported on Nov. 16.

The story did not include any details about the size or scope of the possible development.

A meeting of concerned citizens was held in Sierra Madre on Monday night, at which a representative from Mater Dolorosa distributed a letter containing information about the development, according to the Sierra Madre Tattler, which printed the letter.

The letter also did not include details about the development, only to say that the center was considering selling the land in the open field parcel located immediately north of the gates on Sunnyside Avenue. The letter also suggested the housing would be for aging priests.
