NBC Los Angeles visited Sierra Madre yesterday to talk to residents about new water restrictions in aniticpation of Tuesday night's meeting on the subject.
The video which includes an interview with resident Ginger Kyndberg who is unsure how she can meet the new conservation targets, can be viewed above.
“As much as I want to conserve water, my question is, how am I going to achieve it? I don’t think that I’m going to be able to,” Kyndberg says in the video. Read more from the NBC story on their website.
The new measures, which can be viewed in detail in the city's report, require residents to cut their usage to below 2007-08 levels or face a fine.
The measures were passed at a City Council meeting last month and the new rules went into effect immediately.
In a letter sent out by the city (which can be viewed here) the city said water levels in local aquifers dropped by more than 30 feet from April 2012 to April 2013. According to the city, Sierra Madre relies on local sources for 90 to 95 percent of its water.
