SONOMA, CA — The Sonoma home of an astronaut who piloted Apollo 9 is on the market for $2.5 million, according to reports.

The residence at 760 Fifth St. E. is being sold after 25 years with astronaut Russell Schweickart and his family, SFGate reported.

Schweickart was the lunar module pilot for Apollo 9 for 10 days in March 1969, according to the website for the Schweickart Prize. He later received NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal for his work overcoming solar shield issues while serving as backup commander for the first Skylab mission. After leaving NASA, he worked as California Gov. Jerry Brown’s assistant for science and technology.

Schweickart’s home is over 3,000 square feet with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, according to its Compass real estate listing. The house is located just a few blocks from Sonoma’s historic plaza.

“At once elegant and comfortable, the home offers an expansive sunlit space,” the listing said. “The dramatic entry with a soaring ceiling and split staircase draws your eyes upward. The custom ceiling light fixture glows with soft light to welcome you home.”
