City Of Lynwood: Community Cleanup And Adopt A Senior Program Gets Off To A Great Start

“Let’s Go Lynwood!”

Those enthusiastic words rang in the air early Saturday morning at the corner of Ernestine and Walnut as volunteers and Lynwood city workers gathered for the Community Cleanup. 

It was a great success.

It revolved around Mayor Jorge Casanova’s Adopt a Senior Program which launched Saturday morning when city workers went to Patricia Martinez’ home on Walnut and cleaned up the property, painted the house and improved the walkway up to her home. Ms. Martinez is a frequent visitor to the Lynwood Senior Citizen Center and well known to many city employees. 

“Some of our seniors need some help and haven’t been able to keep up their property like they once did,” said Mayor Casanova. “This program is designed to help them.”

While the city workers were sprucing up Ms. Martinez’ property, other volunteers led by Mayor Casanova, Councilmembers Rita Soto and Marisela Santana, City Manager Ernie Hernandez and Recreation and Community Services Director Mark Flores patrolled the nearby alleys and cleaned up debris in them.

In addition, residents were encouraged to bring any junk and unwanted material to bins nearby.
