Gateway Woman Fatally Stabbed, Man in Custody

The crime was reported about 7:10 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Pendleton Avenue.

SOUTH GATE, CA - A woman who was stabbed at her South Gate home died at a hospital Monday, and a man was taken into custody as a suspect in her death and in the stabbing of a 6-month-old child who was hospitalized.

The attack was reported about 7:10 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Pendleton Avenue, according to the sheriff's department.

Alicia Williams, 32, who lived at the location, died at a hospital about 6:55 a.m. today, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

The suspect's name was not immediately released. Authorities could not immediately confirm broadcast reports that the suspect was the woman's husband, and that he also stabbed the couple's infant daughter.

Nicole Nishida of the sheriff's department confirmed that a 6-month-old child had been stabbed "during an altercation" and was hospitalized in stable condition.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were assisting South Gate police in the investigation.
