LAPD, Probation Officers Shot Near Lynwood

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A Los Angeles police officer and a probation officer
were shot today during a probation search in the unincorporated Willowbrook
area.  

The suspect is barricaded in the house in the 2200 block of East 117th Street, near the border with Lynwood and the Glen Anderson (105) Freeway, which is surrounded by a dozens of law enforcement officers, including a Special Weapons and Tactics Team, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Christopher No and Cmdr. Andrew Smith.

The officer was shot in the face and taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where he is listed in stable condition. The probation officer was shot in a leg and treated at the scene, No said.

The shooting occurred at 5:29 p.m. in the 2200 block of East 117th Street, near the border with Lynwood and the Glen Anderson (105) Freeway, said Officer Sara Faden of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

The officer was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood. The officer's condition was not immediately available, Faden said.

A citywide tactical alert was issued, allowing officers to be kept on duty after the end of their scheduled shifts. A SigAlert was called on the eastbound Glen Anderson Freeway at Wilmington Avenue.
 
Smith said there appears to be no connection with this shooting and the shooting of two LAPD detectives outside the Wilshire Station in the Mid-City area.
