The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) is hoping to curb incidences of vehicle thefts by carrying out “Protect Your Car,” an educational community workshop. This event is looking to instruct vehicle owners on the major ways of not becoming of victim of auto theft.
“While the numbers look like they may be trending downward, the statistics of auto thefts for 2013 are close to surpassing the numbers from 2012,” said Marisela Santana, Lynwood’s public information officer, in a statement.
The workshop is set to take place this Saturday, June 8, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11832 Atlantic Avenue, Yvonne Burke/Ham Park, in Lynwood.
In 2012, 520 auto thefts were recorded within the city of Lynwood. This was a 12 percent increase from 2011 numbers. This year, from January and June, there have been 220 reported
“Even though the numbers look like they’re leveling off, and our efforts are working, it’s still not good enough. We need to do more,” said Captain Joseph Gooden of the LASD. “The numbers have been alarming.”
Those who choose to attend the workshop will be treated to several presentations by the LASD’s Century Sheriff’s Department on the various ways to prevent auto theft, as well as questions and answer sessions.
“We’re doing everything we can on our end, but we need the community’s help,” said Captain Gooden in a statement.
