Lynwood Unified Teacher Awarded Fulbright Grant

Murchelle Brumfield, a 4th grade special education teacher at Lugo Elementary in Lynwood, was recently awarded a Fulbright Awards in teaching grant that will permit her to carry out field research in Singapore on January 2014.

Brumfield was one of 17 teachers from across the country to be awarded this grant, which issued by the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

“We at Lynwood Unified are incredibly proud of Ms. Brumfield for her accomplishment in obtaining this grant,” said Maria G. Lopez, the president of the Lynwood Unified School District’s (LUSD) Board of Education. “Her experiences will also be shared with her peers and will benefit our entire educational community.”

Brumfield's research will focus on how students from the Singaporean Educational system are prepared for careers and college.  She will also look into how teachers are using contemporary teaching methodologies.

"I am honored to be representing the Lynwood community,” said Brumfield to the board, according to an LUSD statement.
