Lynwood Union Gallery Examines LA Riots 25 Years Later

An exhibit entitled, "L.A. Riots: Lynwood. The Riots Changed A Lot of Communities, This is OUR Story" is opening April 29.

From Lynwood Union Gallery: The Lynwood Union Gallery takes a raw look back at the 1992 L.A. Riots and how they affected our community with an exhibit entitled, “L.A. Riots: Lynwood. The Riots Changed A Lot of Communities, This is OUR Story,” opening this Saturday, April 29, 2017.

With the collaborative efforts of Lynwood Films, and of the City of Lynwood’s Recreation and Community Services Department, the exhibit will be opening with the premiere of a documentary filmed exclusively for this event called “We Used to Go to Clark’s Drugs: Lynwood During the L.A. Riots.” The film features local leaders, business owners, educators, and faces from the community who take us back to 1992 with chilling stories and memories of the moment in Los Angeles time that changed all of our lives forever. Set to take place from noon to 4 p.m., the opening for the “This is OUR Story” exhibit this Saturday will also feature music, a drum circle, art displays, an art wall for kids, an author book signing, a photography exhibit, poetry, dance, food and arts and crafts vendors, and surprise guest performances.

“We have to remember where we came from, in order to know where we are going,” said Rowland Becerra, chair of The Lynwood Union Gallery’s Board of Directors. “We have new generations growing up not knowing about the 1992 L.A. Riots, and why they happened, let alone how they affected Lynwood. It’s important to remember, not to judge, but to shed light on a piece of our history that changed our community forever.”
