South Gate Police Arrest Two in Connection to Robbery

Early this morning, June 25, the South Gate Police Department (SGPD) made two arrests in relation to an alleged gold chain robbery that occurred at the 2300 block of Dorothy Avenue.

“A woman was in front of her house washing her car, when she was approached by a male suspect,” said Captain Keith Hupp of the SGPD. “The suspect ripped her chain out of her neck.”

Witnesses called in the incident at approximately 9:48 a.m. and officers immediately responded to the area.  The suspect was spotted hiding in Alexander Avenue just south of Michigan Avenue.

“He was getting picked up by a second suspect,” said Capt. Hupp.  “They caught them in the getaway vehicle.”

Police identified the suspects as residents of Carson.

Deanthony Wills, 24, stands accused of robbing the chain, while Joseph Dyes, 21, of being the getaway driver.

The alleged gold chain was retrieved by police during the arrest, according to Capt. Hupp.
