LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County declined to 9.9 percent in April, down from a revised 10.2 percent in March, the state Employment Development Department announced today.
The 9.9 percent unemployment rate was below the 11.2 percent rate in April 2012, according to the EDD.
South Gate also saw a drop in its rate of unemployment. In January 2013, South Gate registered an unemployment rate of 13.9 percent, which was larger than the 11.9 percent it recorded for April 2013.
Lynwood also saw a decrease in its unemployment rate. Registering a 17.2 percent rate of unemployment in January 2013, and a 14.8 percent in April 2013.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent, down from 6.3 percent in March.
California's jobless rate was 9 percent in April, down from 9.4 percent in March and from 10.7 percent in April 2012, according to the EDD.
The comparable estimates for the nation were 7.5 percent in April, 7.6 percent in March and 8.1 percent a year ago.
Total nonfarm employment increased by 200 jobs in Los Angeles County between March and April to reach more than 3.9 million. The trade, transportation and utilities sector posted the month-over gain, adding 2,600 jobs, according to the EDD.
A total of 485,000 people were unemployed in April in Los Angeles County, which has a labor force of more than 4.9 million.
