Salon to Lop Locks in the Name of Charity

 boys will get their hair buzzed Sunday in the name of Holy Family graduate, Katherine Evans, who in June. 

The Bruce K. Smith Salon, 1101 Foothill Blvd., is hosting a Buzzz-A-Thon between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., when haircuts will run $20 and all proceeds will equally benefit the St. Francis High athletic department and the Katherine Evans Scholarship Fund. Katherine had planned to start  in the fall. 

A  eulogy posted to You Tube depicts lots of happy images of the 14-year-old, including several of her smiling in a Tologs sweatshirt, as well as a blue cap and gown.

Katherine's father, Gregory Evans, told Patch in July that his daughter had been in "perfect health'' prior to her death. The San Marino resident graduated from Holy Family School on June 10. Two days later, she died.

The La Cañada salon owner knew Katherine and wanted to help raise money for the scholarship that was created in her name, said stylist Jennifer Sands. The scholarship supports a Holy Family eighth grader who will attend Flintridge Sacred Heart.

Tologs and Knights will be on hand as stylists lop locks on Sunday. Sands said the timing coincides with St. Francis football team's hell week.
