Longtime District Educator to Become Junipero Serra Principal

Dalton Miranda started his SSFUSD career as an elementary school teacher at Junipero Serra.

A longtime educator in the will become the new principal of Junipero Serra Elementary School, the school board announced at its meeting Thursday night.

Dalton Miranda joined SSFUSD as a teacher at Junipero Serra, and for the past five years has been an assistant principal at .

"Thank you so much for the opportunity you’ve given me," Miranda told the board. "I look forward to working with you for years to come."

Miranda lives extremely close to Junipero Serra, and Board Vice President Philip Weise jokingly asked him if he planned to paint a yellow line down the street saying, "This way to the principal's office."

"Everyone knows where I live," Miranda said. "Every generation that’s gone to Junipero Serra, Alta Loma, they know where I am."

"Congratulations; you are definitely one of the many stories I love to hear," Trustee Liza Normandy told him.

The position became available in February, when the board announced that current Principal John Schmella planned to retire at the end of the school year.
