Mom's YouTube Plea Gets Genentech to Release Drug
A Florida mother dying of cancer pleaded with Genentech on YouTube for the company to release a trial drug to extend her life.
Florida mom Darlene Gant is terminally ill with breast cancer, but she believes that Pertuzumab, a drug developed by South San Francisco-based Genentech, will extend her life.
At first, the company refused to release the trial drug, which has yet to be approved by the FDA, under a compassionate use exemption. But after the mom made a YouTube video about how she needs the drug to extend her time with her son, the company relented, according to ABC News.
Gant is expected to start the drug today.
