SMC Hosts Gun Buyback Event This Weekend
Anyone is welcome to drop off firearms for a cash payment this weekend, including for non-functioning weapons and "ghost guns."

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office plans to host an anonymous gun buyback event in South San Francisco this weekend, welcoming residents to exchange unwanted firearms for cash with no questions asked.
A partnership between San Mateo County and four neighboring police departments, the weekend event will be the county's seventh. The program has collected more than 2,300 firearms to date, with payments funded through a Measure K grant, the sheriff's office and Citizens for San Mateo County Gun Buyback.
The latest event will take place at the North County Courthouse parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. Anyone can participate and receive cash on the spot, even if the gun no longer works.
