Teen Trafficking Victim Rescued In SMC: Police

Police went undercover to find a 17-year-old girl from the East Coast being trafficked in the Bay Area.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Detectives went undercover to rescue a 17-year-old girl who was being trafficked Dec. 2 in South San Francisco after receiving a tip from another law enforcement agency, police said.

On Dec. 2, South San Francisco Police Department detectives said they received a tip from another police department that a 17-year-old girl from the east coast, who had beenreported missing at risk, was likely being commercially sex trafficked in South San Francisco.

Detectives said they went undercover and responded to an online posting which depicted the victim and advertised commercial sex services.

Detectives said they were directed to a hotel on the 1300 block of Veterans Boulevard where they found the missing teen.

Police said their investigation revealed the girl was being sex trafficked by 23-year-old San Francisco resident Liliana Mejia, who was also present at the hotel.

Mejia was arrested for human trafficking of a minor and other related pimping and pandering charges, police said. She was booked into San Mateo County Jail.

The teen girl was taken into protective custody and provided with services and resources.
