Beeman Park Advisory Board Votes No on Cell Tower Proposal
The issue brought in the largest crowd ever for a parks meeting.

On Monday, the Studio City Recreation Center (Beeman Park) held its Park Advisory Board meeting to discuss and vote on the proposed AT&T cell tower installation.

By the board’s own acknowledgment, the meeting was the most widely attended they had ever seen (there was even police presence). Representatives from the Studio City Resident’s Association, Studio City Neighborhood Council, Councilman Paul Krekorian’s office and AT&T were present.

Most impressively, nearly 80 residents and neighbors showed up and there were many passionate, eloquent speakers throughout the night. A voice vote was taken: no one in attendance was there in support of the project.
The motion, as read by Board President Bruce Thomas: “...to support or not to support the proposed AT&T cell tower project, which is to be placed at Studio City Recreation Center. Final designs and or placing of equipment along with antenna sites and locations along with future revenue from AT&T to be determined at a future date and agreed upon by the PAB and Studio City Park staff. This motion will only give the support of the project provided that the future designs, Studio City Park improvements and the placing of all logistical equipment and buildings....[sic]”

CENTER (BEEMAN PARK) - PARK ADVISORY BOARD VOTE
• Board members present were: Bruce Thomas, Jon Galatzan, D.J. Jenkins, Jack Knight and Julie Rolland.
• Board voted as follows: 4 opposed (Thomas, Galatzan, Knight, Rolland), 1 abstention (Jenkins).
• The PAB is to memorialize official recommendation (4-0-1 vote) in letter form, which is handed off to Studio City Recreation Center (Beeman Park) Facility Director, Adam Monick, who in turn is responsible for passing along that recommendation to the Department of Recreation and Parks Commissioners.
