Sean Kennedy of Valley Village earned a bachelor's degree in marketing.

The University of San Diego is a Catholic institution of higher learning chartered in 1949; the school enrolls some 7,800 undergraduate and graduate students and is known for its commitment to teaching, the liberal arts, the formation of values and community service. Erika Leon, of Toluca Lake, Graduates From Colorado College

Erika Leon graduated with a bachelor's degree in Art from Colorado College.

Leon is the daughter of H. Frank Leon and Margarita Manduley of Toluca Lake.

The college awarded 525 undergraduate degrees and five master of arts in teaching degrees at its 130th commencement ceremony, held on May 21 outdoors on Armstrong Quad.

Musician Abigail Washburn, a 1999 graduate of Colorado College, addressed the Class of 2012. In addition to Washburn, Colorado Lt. Gov. Joseph Garcia and legendary jazz guitarist Johnny Smith also received honorary degrees.

Colorado College is a nationally prominent, four-year liberal arts college that was founded in Colorado Springs in 1874. The college operates on the innovative Block Plan, in which its 2,000 undergraduate students study one course at a time in intensive 3½-week segments. Thomas Manella of North Hollywood and Manartha Griffin of Studio City from California Lutheran University

Local students named to CLU Dean's List

Scholars maintained 3.6 GPA. The following local residents were among 554 students who made the Dean's Honor List at California Lutheran University for the fall semester.

Thomas Manella of North Hollywood is a sophomore and a criminal justice major.

Manartha Griffin of Studio City, is a senior and a theater an arts major.

Students qualify for the Dean's List by maintaining a 3.6 grade point average in their academic subjects.

CLU is a selective university located in Thousand Oaks, with centers in Oxnard and Woodland Hills for graduate courses and its Adult Degree Evening Program. With an enrollment of 4,100 students, CLU offers 37 undergraduate majors and graduate programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Management and Graduate School of Education. Doctoral degrees in educational leadership, higher education leadership and clinical psychology are also offered. Nathaniel Ludewig Named to Dean's List at Emory College

Nathaniel Ludewig of Toluca Lake, Calif., son of David Ludewig and Robin Ludewig, was named to the Dean's List of Emory College, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., for the 2011 fall semester.

Students must be in the top 20 percent of Emory College or have approximately a 3.81 grade point average or higher to be named to the Dean's List.

Emory University is known for its demanding academics, outstanding undergraduate experience, highly ranked professional schools and state-of-the-art research facilities. Emory encompasses nine academic divisions as well as the Carlos Museum, The Carter Center, the Yerkes National Primate Research Center and Emory Healthcare, Georgia's largest and most comprehensive health care system.
