Council District 2 Office Issues Safety Tips Reminders for Halloween

As ghouls, goblins and ghosts stroll through the night,  We have tips to make Halloween less of a fright.  A few simple rules to avoid any risks,  To make sure you get more treats than tricks. 

 This Halloween, heed these safety tips from the Los Angeles Police Department and the office of Councilmember Paul Krekorian to make Halloween night a fun, safe and healthy for your family and the community. 

1. Don't eat candy until it has been inspected at home.
2. Tell children not to accept-or eat-anything that isn't commercially wrapped.
3. Parents of very young children should remove any choking hazards such as gum, peanuts, hard candies, or small toys.
4. Inspect commercially wrapped treats for signs of tampering, such as an unusual appearance or discoloration, tiny pinholes, or tears in wrappers. Throw away anything that looks suspicious.
5. Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
6. Advise children that they should never enter strangers' homes or accept rides from strangers.
7. All costumes should be made of fireproof material.
8. Children should walk, not run, during their trick-or-treat activities.
9. Children should always use sidewalks, not the street, for walking, look in all directions before crossing the street and obey traffic signs.

With the number of pedestrians on the street, motorist should be extra vigilant and adhere to traffic safety laws during their travels. 

1. Drive slowly and cautiously.
2. Look for children walking on the street, running, and darting in between parked vehicles.
3. Be extra careful when entering and exiting driveways.
4. Never drink and drive.
