Cowboy Western Artist Al Shelton Honored by Neighborhood Council

At 92, he is closing his shop on Ventura Boulevard in September.

The Studio City Neighborhood Council is starting a new tradition—honoring and recognizing accomplishments in Studio City. Their first honoree is , who just turned 92, and is retiring his store on Ventura Boulevard after half a century.

The idea of the new honoree system, coming from Helen Hatat, Lisa Cahan Davis and the

from Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian’s office read a proclamation in Shelton’s honor, and wished him a “belated Happy 92nd Birthday.”

Studio City Neighborhood Council president John Walker pointed out that Shelton made more than 100 buckle designs for the motion picture industry, and worked with people such as , and . 

“We also want to thank you for your loyalty to Studio City and recognize your longstanding 50 years of your establishment here,” Walker said.

Originally planning to close in July, Shelton is extending his store’s closing until Sept. 15.

Shelton said, “I am very impressed with this. I did not expect it, but I like it.”
