Did You Hear the Jets Fly Over Saturday?

Jets were heard over the Los Angeles skies on Saturday. 

In Hollywood they were heard in the early afternoon. Some readers in the San Fernando Valley said they heard them around noon.

From 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. there was a window of time that NASA announced they would be doing some low-altitude flying in the Los Angeles area for some advance preparation for the arrival of the space shuttle Endeavor on Sept. 20.

“We want to alert the public that these are loud jets and they will be flying fairly low,” said NASA spokesman Michael Curie.

The Endeavor is arriving at LAX for its new home at the California Science Center. It is coming on the back of a 747.

In preparation for that, the two jets—an F-18 Hornet and a T-38 Trainer jet—are taking a dry run for the flight and looking for potentially challenging areas or obstacles such as radio and TV towers. They will also have camera equipment to take pictures of the shuttle flying over iconic landmarks such as Disneyland and the Hollywood sign, much like Discovery's arrival in Washington, D.C.
