Do You Want to Help Plan Your Community? Tell the City

Do you want to have a say as to how your community looks, and what your neighborhood should look like?

The Los Angeles City Planning Department is asking for input about some key areas of the city—two of those in Studio City. 

The detailed survey not only asks your wishes for your community, but asks you to correct detailed maps that show roads, alleys and natural boundaries like the Los Angeles River.

“This is our chance to give some feedback into what the city should prioritize for our area, and I encourage everyone to go in and fill out the forms,” said Land Use Chair Lisa Sarkin, who added her two-cents to the survey.

 Sarkin said she was surprised that the maps of the planning department had such inaccurate maps that showed streets improperly intersecting other streets and alleyways that no longer exist. Her neighborhood fell into an area that includes the heart of Studio City, the CBS Radford Studios, Colfax Meadows and the Los Angeles River.

Another section of Studio City on the east side centers on the Ventura and Cahuenga boulevards, Universal City and the Cahuenga Pass. 

The survey asks residents to prioritize what streets should be for: mostly pedestrian traffic, getting to places quickly, etc. They also ask residents to list places they would go to if bike paths or mass transit is more readily available.

The introduction letter describes the project as:

We are excited to share our new Activity Kit, a set of exercises for community stakeholders to give their input regarding their neighborhood, community, and mobility. The activities allow community members to 1) share their vision of streets and neighborhoods of the future; 2) rank priorities for streets and mobility; and 3) map their community with positive features, gaps, barriers, and improvements they would like to see. Community feedback will help us formulate goals and programs for the mobile city that Angelenos desire.  Over 100 neighborhood councils and organizations will soon be receiving an Activity Kit, and the kit materials are also available online for download.
