Eddie Van Halen's Guitar Heads to Smithsonian

The Studio City resident is donating a most-famous guitar.

Studio City resident and musician Eddie Van Halen donated his guitar to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.

The red, black and white guitar is known as Frank 2, which he used in 2007 for a North American tour with the original lead singer, David Lee Roth.

The Frank 2 is a copy of the original specially-made Frankenstein guitar that Van Halen was famous for using for more than three decades. It will be part of the instrument collection, but isn't in the public display section yet.
