Former Henry's Fades Away—When Will Tujunga Village Taco Wars Begin?

The Cactus Tacos owners plan to launch their third venue, the latest in Studio City.

The last remnants of Henry's Tacos at its corner location in Tujunga Village was whitewashed away this week.

Former owner Janis Hood, whose family rented that space for more than half a century, said it pains her to drive past that spot at Tujunga and Moorpark Street and see the remnants of her family business erased from that corner.

The bright Henry's Tacos painted on the side of the building (where a car once broke the wall) is now painted over white. Inside, the kitchen and plumbing is being re-done.

"We are passing all the inspections and getting permits to do some work, and it is going well," said Martha Silva, one of the family owners of the Cactus Mexican Food (also known as Cactus Tacos and Cactus Taqueria) that will be heading into the space. The banner that now flies at the former Henry's Tacos said it will be their third restaurant (they have two other taco restaurants in Hollywood.)

"We will be opening in one or two months when we get everything together," Silva said.

One of the delays, which she said will help the business, is that her son Marlo, who will run the taco stand, is graduating from culinary school. They plan to offer high-end tacos at the new stand.

"And, when we launch, we will offer free tacos for a time," she added.
