Krekorian Urges Calls to the Governor to Stop Traveling Billboards

He cites many local complaints by businesses and residents.

They create more traffic and they are simply too dangerous in an area like Studio City, where driving any time of the day can be hazardous.

That's what Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian says about the mobile billboards that are hitched up behind trucks and run up and down Ventura Boulevard and other streets in the area.

"We don't need more traffic, and we certainly don't need people distracted from driving," Krekorian said at a Studio City Residents Association meeting.

Krekorian, who represents part of Studio City, introduced a motion with Councilmember Dennis Zine, said, "In the San Fernando Valley, mobile billboards have exploded in popularity recently, to the great annoyance of outraged residents and business owners. We have seen many of these pesky trailers blown over into traffic lanes, endangering drivers."

Krekorian said he is responding to local complaints, adding, "Business owners have complained that they take up valuable parking spaces. Cyclists have reported that they cut down on bike lanes, forcing riders to veer dangerously into traffic."

Now, state legislation by Assemblymembers Bob Blumenfield and local representative Mike Feuer is being proposed as Assembly Bill 2756. It passed the state legislature and is on the governor's desk.

Krekorian and his staff is asking that people call Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today, (916) 445-2841 and urge him to sign AB 2756.
