Neighborhood Council Workshop Draws 100 People
Councilman Paul Krekorian invites members of 92 councils for day-long training
More than 100 people interested in community activism came to a workshop for Neighborhood Councils that was hosted during the day on Sunday by Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian.
The event was declared a "smashing success" by the councilman's communications director, Jeremy Olberstein.
Krekorian addressed the crowd by reminiscing that when he was a child growing up in the San Fernando Valley.

"Even as a child I got the sense that the Valley was considered an ugly stepchild of Los Angeles," Krekorian said.
He also said that he knew that some of his colleagues on the city council wouldn't mind if the neighborhood groups just went away.

Sunday's meeting was the first of two workshops planned by Krekorian's office. The Neighborhood Council plan allows residents the chance to present their own vision on the future of the council system, and they went into specific breakout sessions.
