Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested

A suspect was arrested and charged Wednesday in connection to incidents of sexual battery on senior citizens in the Studio City and North Hollywood areas.

Edwin Ernesto Cabrera, 42, was arrested by North Hollywood detectives on charges of assaulting 11 elderly women between Sept. 13, 2009 and Aug. 22 of this year.

Police detectives said Cabrera was brought in by family members after reading about their search for a suspect on the Internet.

"The flyers we put out in the neighborhoods and the parks really helped us in the community," said Detective Gretchen Zavala. "We may actually have more victims come to us."

Police described the man they were looking for as about 5-foot, 8-inches tall and approximately 30 to 40 years old, with black short hair, brown eyes and weighing about 150 to 155 pounds.  The suspect was known to be riding a red bike and driving a red van.
