The board paid a visit to Valley View just before summer ended, and offered an extra amount of money because of the poor condition of the seats that go back to the 1950s.
CICA president Tom Reise said, "We are impressed that you have such an active parent population, and dedicated teaching team and staff. The way the PTA is involved and shares in work and costs is of particular note, and why we are happy to continue working with Valley View."
The school has excelled as an arts and technology school and the board said, "In the meantime, the horrifying conditions of your auditorium chairs led us to a unanimous decision to offer you a one-time additional grant of $10,000 that will be hurried to your account so you can get the chairs near the opening of the school year."
And George notes: "We didn't get any prize money but the bragging rights are lovely! What a nice way to start the school year! As for the CICA letter, wow. The fact that they cited our group's involvement as a reason to increase their funding is so impressive. We work so hard to raise the level, even in a budget crisis... and then having our efforts acknowledged by a charitable organization that probably gets grant requests all the time... it's incredible!"
