Fairfield Police Called When Man Buying Car Shows Gun
A loaded SigSauer .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun was removed from the man's waistband. Police suspect he also had cocaine.

FAIRFIELD - A Fairfield resident trying to buy a car was arrested by police after revealing to a salesperson that he was carrying a loaded gun while inside the dealership.
38-year-old David Phillips, a Fairfield resident, allegedly had a second loaded gun and cocaine in his possession when police arrived.
According to Fairfield Police, a call was received approximately 4:00 p.m. on January 7 from a dealer in the 2800 block of Auto Mall Parkway regarding a man with a gun.

Officers from the Fairfield Police Special Operations Team and Patrol Division responded to the scene. Police say the caller told dispatch that a man and his wife were in the middle of attempting to purchase a vehicle when the man displayed a handgun that was in his waistband. The caller said the man placed the gun on a desk; however not in a threatening manner.
Officers approached the man and his wife and immediately detained them inside the dealership without incident. A loaded SigSauer .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun was removed from the man’s waistband. A loaded Springfield XD40 .40 caliber handgun was located inside the man’s backpack. Police say they also found approximately 1 gram of suspected cocaine inside his pants pocket.

David Phillips’ wife was released at the scene. Phillips was carrying the loaded firearms illegally; he did not possess any concealed carry credentials.
Phillips was booked into Solano County Jail on Felony weapons and narcotic charges.
