UPDATE: North Bay Amtrak Train Hits, Kills Pedestrian on Tracks

A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train east of Vacaville this morning, resulting in delays between Suisun City and Dixon.

The pedestrian who was killed by a train Wednesday morning east of Vacaville has been identified as Michael Richard Chapin, 63, of Elmira, according to the Solano County coroner's office.

Chapin was walking in the middle of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in unincorporated Solano County in Elmira when he was struck around 11:45 a.m., Vacaville Fire Protection District Chief Doug Rogers said.

The incident happened near Hawkins and Byrnes roads a half-mile north of Elmira Road, Rogers said.

Chapin was pronounced dead at 12:03 p.m., according to the coroner's office.

The Amtrak Capitol Corridor train was traveling at about 70 mph, Rogers said.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA -- A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train east of Vacaville during the morning of Feb. 22, a fire chief said.

The man, who was believed to be trespassing in the area, was struck in the middle of the tracks around 11:45 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, Vacaville Fire Protection District Chief Doug Rogers said.

The train was traveling about 70 mph, Rogers said.

The incident was reportedly near Hawkins and Byrnes roads, a half-mile north of Elmira Road around 11:45 a.m., Rogers said.

Amtrak officials said on Twitter that its Capitol Corridor train no. 528 was delayed between Suisun City and Davis because of the incident.
