FAIRFIELD - A twenty year anniversary in any career is a milestone that shows a person’s dedication. Most of us get paid to do our jobs, but serving twenty years as a public service volunteer? That takes dedication to a whole new level. That’s exactly what Fairfield Police Volunteer in Police Service Richard Campbell accomplished last week!
On February 9, 1996, Richard Campbell began volunteering for the Fairfield Police Department by assisting with administrative and clerical duties. At that time, Richard was part of the Police Department’s volunteer unit, Citizens Observe & Report Patrol (C.O.R.P.) C.O.R.P. was a crime prevention program designed to augment the police department’s patrol officers by having volunteers be additional eyes and ears on the streets.

The unit was comprised of citizen volunteers who wanted to take an active role in reducing criminal activity in Fairfield neighborhoods by patrolling the city and reporting suspicious and criminal activity directly to the police.
In 2010, CORP evolved into the volunteer program currently serving the Police Department, called Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS.)

During Richard’s 20 year (and counting) volunteer career with the Fairfield Police Department he has worked over 4000 volunteer hours.
In addition to clerical duties, Richard provides department tours for visitors and he is active in his Neighborhood Watch group as a Block Captain, helping to organize meetings in his own neighborhood.
Richard also enjoys going on occasional ride-alongs with police officers.
Richard has been a loyal and dedicated volunteer with the Fairfield Police Department for the past 20 years. His assistance and attention to detail never go unnoticed. His friendly smile and sense of humor enlighten everyone’s spirit when we need it the most. Richard has become, and will always be a part of our police family. We are forever grateful for his many years of service.
