Safe and Sane Fireworks Cause Fairfield Structure Fire
A quick response by the Fairfield Fire Department prevented the home from becoming a total loss.

They're called Safe and Sane fireworks but that label doesn't put Fairfield Fire Department Chief Vince Webster at ease.
"I realize that they are Safe and Sane, but there's still a danger that exists," he said.
This morning, a fire that began in a trash can spread into a Duren Circle home, prompting a response from the Fairfield Fire Department at 2 a.m. Chief Webster said that the fire was caused by the improper disposal of Safe and Sane fireworks.

"It was a minor fire," he said. "Fortunately, the crews got there in time and stopped it from taking out the entire structure."
The temperature, which was cooler this morning, and the lack of high winds, were a boon to the firefighters who responded to the home, Webster said.

Over in Suisun, the fire department went the entire night without responding to a single fire, according to the department. On today's police log however, the department responded to a plethora of fireworks calls.
Over in Dixon, city firefighters also had a relatively quiet night in terms of fires. No major fires were reported in that city, although the department is investigating a fire in a storage container at CA Jacobs Middle School and it may or may not be attributed to fireworks. That fire was called in at 1:10 p.m., today.Â
The question over the concerns of neighboring fire districts was put to Suisun City Fire Chief Mike O'Brien, who told the Patch that he also shared some concerns that his fellow fire chiefs shared with him.
However, Chief O'Brien said that it was the illegal fireworks that concerned him most, the kind that go in the air, explode or do both.
Now we put the question up to the readers of Suisun City Patch. Do you think it's a good idea for Suisun to continue its fireworks program? Are you concerned over fireworks in your town?
