Fires Erupt In Solano County, Visible Across Bay Area

The fires sent plumes of smoke and some ash to the surrounding communities.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA -- Two vegetation fires erupted Sunday morning in Solano County, sending plumes of smoke to the East Bay.

The first fire was reported at 10:30 a.m. in Vacaville near Interstate 505 and Midway Road, briefly prompting the closure of the freeway. The fire was estimated to be about 15 acres, according to the Solano County Fire Department.

Less than 30 minutes later, another fire was reported on Branscombe Road in the Suisun District, fire officials said. The acreage of the second fire wasn't immediately clear.

A traffic alert was issued at about 11:30 a.m. and the roadway remains closed between Branscombe and Walters Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

Twitter users throughout the region wrote on the social media website that they could see smoke as far as Danville, Fremont and Concord.
