Venice Boardwalk Attacker Flees Into The Ocean, Arrested Anyway

The suspect fled into the water and was there for more than 1-1/2 hours before he was detained.

VENICE, CA — A man is in custody Wednesday morning following alleged attacks on Venice beach, police said.

The fight broke out at around 6:50 a.m. and the suspect fled into the water, Los Angeles police Officer Jane Kim said.

The suspect was in the water for about 1-1/2 hours before he was finally taken into custody. The suspect was placed under private person's arrest for misdemeanor battery, Kim said.

Under California's law, an individual can request a private person's arrest if police did not witness the alleged crime, she said.
