Read 'Moby Dick' on the Beach in Venice
The annual free reading is open to all. Come read or listen to Herman Melville's tale on Venice beach.

A complete reading of Herman Melville's book Moby Dick will take place Saturday and Sunday on the beach in Venice.
Staged by the Venice Oceanarium, a museum sans walls, the Moby Dick reading has been held annually on the sand since 1995. Volunteers may sit and listen or read a chapter or two aloud, according to the organization's website.
The reading begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, lasting until around 9 p.m. or so when the halfway point is reached. The second half of the book is read on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting until around 9 or 10 p.m., according to a blog. It is held near the breakwater rocks at the end of Windward Avenue.
Visitors are advised to bring blankets, sun screen and water.
The nonprofit's mission is to "impart a better understanding of the ocean and life within it, and in so doing, to lead us to a better understanding of ourselves."
