Today in Venice, Mar Vista: Building Proposals Loom Large, Venice Art Crawl, Holiday Boutique, Symphony Fundraiser

Proposed buildings and businesses go before the Venice Neighborhood Council Land Use and Planning Committee Wednesday.

Here are five things for your Tuesday and beyond in Venice-Mar Vista:  

  1. Fourth graders at Walgrove Elementary are trying to raise enough money to make a trip to Sacramento to learn about California history and government. Visit their fundraising holiday boutique on Wednesday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Or, donate online.
  2. The proposed hotel development at 1033 Abbot Kinney Blvd. and a mixed-use commercial building at 1414 Main St. are on the agenda of the Wednesday night meeting of the Venice Neighborhood Council Land Use and Planning Committee, 6:45-9 p.m. at the Oakwood Recreation Center, 767 California Ave. Agenda here.

  4. The Venice Symphony Orchestra and Jules Muck are holding a Holidaze fundraiser Thursday at 1410 Main St., 6 p.m.-midnight. The orchestra will perform, and there will be an art show, according to a Facebook post. Proceeds benefit the Venice Symphony Orchestra Music Education Program for At-Risk Youth.
