Venice Homeless Encampment Shooting Suspect Arrested, Police Say

VENICE, CA — Authorities Tuesday arrested a 36-year-old man suspected of shooting another man at a homeless encampment in Venice, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A man was shot about 12:55 p.m. Tuesday, near Venice Boulevard and Electric Avenue, police said.

The suspect and victim were arguing, police said. The argument escalated and the suspect shot the victim in the leg.

The suspect ran away, police said. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound.

LAPD Pacific Area detectives talked to witnesses and identified a suspect in the shooting, police said.

Suspect Orlando Moreno of Los Angeles was taken into custody at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday near Venice and Abbot Kinney boulevards.

"At the time of his arrest, Moreno was in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun," police said.

His bail was set at $1.095 million.
