Venice Pier Fire: City Approves Emergency Funding For Repairs

After a fire damage the Venice Pier this week, city leaders authorized $5 million to get the tourist attraction back open.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Venice Beach Pier, damaged and closed indefinitely by a fire this week, got some help Wednesday when the Los Angeles City Council approved an emergency motion that clears $5 million to be dedicated toward its repair.

The fire broke out early Tuesday morning, but according to the emergency motion introduced by Councilman Mike Bonin, the Bureau of Engineering recently completed a physical condition assessment of the pier identifying defects requiring immediate corrective actions, and the fire exacerbated the structural problems.

The fire broke out near where the pier meets the shoreline, damaged about 15 to 20 feet, and may have been caused by a homeless encampment, a fire official told Fox-11.
