Popular East Bay Seafood Restaurant Closing After Nearly 30 Years

To preserve her legacy, Walnut Creek Yacht Club owners decided it was best to sail the ship into port and "tie her safely to the dock."

WALNUT CREEK, CA — A seafood restaurant that has long been a part of the Walnut Creek way of life will soon close its doors.

In an email dated March 24, Walnut Creek Yacht Club co-owners Chef Kevin and Ellen announced their plans to close up shop and sail into retirement.

"... This was by no means an easy decision," they wrote. "It’s an emotional one, as we look back on all the memories, relationships, and milestones we’ve shared with our staff and our guests."

The popular eatery at 1555 Bonanza St. will close May 7— the day that otherwise would have marked the beginning of its 29th year in business.

"We invite you to stop by in the coming weeks to celebrate, reminisce, and toast to this incredible journey," the owners wrote.

The restaurant stopped issuing gift cards and loyalty rewards this week but is honoring them until the final day of service.

For those who would like a keepsake, Chef Kevin and Ellen said they will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 12–16, May 19–23 and May 26-30 packing up and selling memorabilia, wine and merchandise at discounted prices and buying back gift certificates.

They said they spoke with others who wished to keep WCYC sailing but knew if someone else took the helm, the ship may not weather any new storms that could come her way. There may be a new restaurant opening in the space but details were not shared.

"To preserve her legacy and ensure that everyone could remember her as she was, we decided it was best to sail her into port and tie her safely to the dock," Chef Kevin and Ellen wrote.

"Since the beginning, WCYC has been about more than just food, wine, and cocktails—it’s been a place where friendships formed, celebrations took place, and stories were shared. Over the years, you welcomed us into your life, allowing us to be part of your birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and so much more.

"WCYC has become a part of your family traditions, and that is one of our greatest honors. We have seen children grow up and return with their children. We have seen families lose loved ones and come here to celebrate their memories with us, because this was their favorite place. ... Though our doors will close, Walnut Creek Yacht Club will live on in the memories we’ve created together."
