WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — The Abbey, one of the world's most well-known gay nightclubs, is for sale.

Real estate agents are accepting offers for the property, which does not have an asking price. The listing includes the Abbey and the adjacent Chapel at the Abbey, plus the business, brand and trademarks.

The listing by Brandon Michaels and Matthew Lucas of Marcus & Millichap Brandon Michaels Group calls it a "generational purchase opportunity" to acquire "one of the world's most iconic nightclubs and restaurants."

Opened in 1991 by investment banker David Cooley as a coffee shop, the Abbey grew over the years into a full-fledged nightclub, bar and restaurant. The business expanded in 2016 to a neighboring parcel to house the Chapel at the Abbey.

The nightclub has earned a global reputation as a place for people of all backgrounds to let loose. Locally, it's become notorious as a place where patrons have a tendency to get messy.

It's earned a slew of honors: MTV and Logo called it the Best Gay Bar in the World, LA Weekly named it the Best Gay Bar in Los Angeles and USA Today honored it among the Best Nightlife in Los Angeles, according to the listing.
