Dodgers To Resume Hollywood Stars Game

The Los Angeles Dodgers will hold their first Hollywood Stars Game since 2009 on June 6, the team announced today as it unveiled its promotional plans for the 2015 season.

The Dodgers had played an annual Hollywood Stars Game from 1958, their first season in Los Angeles, through 2009, except in 1994 when it was canceled because of a strike by the Major League Baseball Players Association.

Participants included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Steve Martin, Bob Newhart and Robin Williams.

The Dodgers had planned to conduct a Hollywood Stars Game in 2010, but the game was postponed “due to operational issues,” then canceled, according to an executive who has since left the organization.

“We just wanted to take a couple of years off from doing it and we feel now is the right time to bring it back,” Joe Jareck, the team’s director of public relations, told City News Service.

The Dodgers new promotional offerings for 2015 include a pin series honoring the team’s eight Cy Young Award winners, a Jackie Robinson adult replica jersey, an adult replica pullover jacket, a Tommy Lasorda garden gnome, coaster set, kids’ cereal bowl, barbecue set and kids’ hamper.

The Dodgers will also have 10 bobblehead giveaways. They will again conduct fireworks shows following each Friday home game and the Viva Los Dodgers festivals before each Sunday home game except the last.
