Ex-Pacific Hills Basketball Coach Sentenced for Sex with Teen Girl

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA - A former Pacific Hills High School basketball coach, who worked as a personal trainer in the Los Angeles area, was sentenced Wednesday to a year in county jail and 52 weeks of sex offender treatment for having sex with a teenage girl.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Anne H. Egerton also barred Herman Charles Nash, 47, from having any contact with the girl or any other minors other than his own children.

Nash was not working at Pacific Hills when he started the inappropriate sexual relationship with the teenage girl.

The judge suspended a four-year, four-month state prison term that Nash will not have to serve unless he violates the conditions of his five-year probation.

Nash was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing hearing to begin serving his jail term stemming from his March 3 no contest plea to three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Police said after Nash's arrest last June that the 16-year-old girl had received one-on-one training sessions from him.

Nash worked as a personal trainer in the Los Angeles area and as a basketball coach for the Pacific Elite Basketball Club.

Befor coaching for Pacific Elite, Nash was the assistant coach at Pacific Hills, helping to lead the boys' team to a Divsion IV state championship game in 2013.

Nash was also a former running back at Manual Arts High School in South L.A.

Defense attorney Robert Schwartz called his client a "beloved figure in the community" and a "remarkable man who made a terrible mistake."
