Sober New Year's Eve Party Planned at West Hollywood Park Auditorium
The Weho City Council votes to waive $4,396 in city fees for the event, as well as contribute $5,000 and co-sponsor.

People in West Hollywood and the Los Angeles area looking to stay sober but party on New Year's Eve will find a safe place at the West Hollywood Park Auditorium.
The Tweakers Project, LA Gay and Lesbian Center, AIDS Project Los Angeles and other groups are hosting a sober New Year's Eve party, and were granted financial support for the event by the West Hollywood City Council at its meeting on Monday.
The council voted to waive $4,396 in city fees for the event, as well as contribute $5,000 and co-sponsor the event. A number of organizers and supporters of the event also spoke before the council.
"The reason that this is so important is because we know the time and the place that people may slip," said Heidi Shink, a member of the city's Planning Commission.
Mike Rizzo, manager of crystal meth recovery services at the LA Gay and Lesbian Center, said the city's financial support was crucial.
"I believe that your generosity that you are supplying us with will truly make a difference," Rizzo said.
