Saturday's Powerball Jackpot Reaches $550 Million

What would you do with $550 million dollars?

That’s the jackpot for the Saturday night drawing of Powerball, the newest game from the California Lottery.

With the introduction of Powerball to the state on April 8th, California becomes the 43rd state to to sell tickets.

In the history of Powerball, the highest jackpot reached $587.5 million, making this Saturday’s jackpot the second highest. According to the CA Lottery, the Powerball jackpot could get even higher before the drawing. Just a year ago, the Mega Millions jackpot reached $656 million.

Woodland Hills has had a lucky winner of a smaller lottery prize. Jim Hagami won $209,244 in July. The ticket successfully matched five of six numbers, only missing the Mega number.

It took Hagami three weeks to remember to check his numbers and discover he was a winner, according to the California Lottery website.

“I completely forgot about the ticket,” he told Lottery officials. “I went online and checked the numbers. I saw that I missed the MEGA number and I thought that maybe I might win $2 or something. Then I saw I matched the others and knew I was a big winner.”
