Valley Habitat for Humanity Seeks Help for Homeless Family

Donations of gift cards or household items can be made at the organization's Woodland Hills office.

Combat injuries coupled with recent layoffs and medical conditions have resulted in one of the families helped by Habitat for Humanity to be in special need.

The family of five, which is being helped by the San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys Habitat for Humanity based in Woodland Hills, is set to move into a donated house Friday; however, the family has not had time to save for normal kitchen, bathroom and bedroom items.

The father is an Air Force veteran who suffers from post traumatic stress syndrome, graves disease and combat injuries; the mother suffers from cardiac issues as a result of Lupus and the oldest son, 24, has autism and does not attend school or work, according to Habitat.

Though currently living in a homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles, the family has managed to keep its two teenage children, 16 and 18, in school.

Habitat for Humanity will furnish the family's new home with items from its ReStore, but does not have beds for the home.

As well, the family doesn't have towels, bath mats, cleaning supplies, dishes, silverware or cooking and baking supplies.

Habitat is seeking donations of these items plus home repair supplies and gift cards to grocery stores, Target, Walmart, Home Depot and other mainstream stores.

Donations can be made at Habitat for Humanity at 21031 Ventura Blvd., Suite 610. Label items for Veteran Family of Five.
