BROOMFIELD, CO – Broomfield schools will be closed Wednesday March 13, due to extreme blizzard conditions and dangerous driving, the districts said.

All Adams 12 5 Star Schools will be closed, as will all Boulder Valley School District schools, the districts said. JeffCo School District also announced that classes would be cancelled.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the entire northeastern corner of the state. Broomfield is on the edge of the predicted storm system, which will sweep through the area starting around 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Broomfield may see rain in the morning on Wednesday, forecasted to change to snow shortly after noon. Gusty winds and heavy bands of snow could combine for blizzard-like conditions. According the current estimates, Broomfield and Boulder could see four to six inches of snow and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service is recommending that people in the affected areas avoid travel, make sure necessary electronic devices are charged ahead of time, and check in on friends and family.
