A few things to know:
- Did you know that Golden was once the Territorial Capital of Colorado? In 1862, the city was designated as the capital of the Colorado Territory and remained so until Denver became the official state capital in 1867. Today, you can visit the Colorado Territorial Capitol Building, which served as the seat of government during this time, and learn about the city's rich history.
- If you're a fan of craft beer, you'll be happy to know that Golden is home to several award-winning breweries. One of the most famous is the Coors Brewery, which has been producing beer in the city since 1873. You can take a tour of the brewery, learn about the brewing process and even sample some of its famous beers.
- Golden is also home to several great hiking trails, including the North Table Mountain Park. This park offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is a great place for a hike or a picnic. The park is also home to various wildlife, including deer, coyotes and birds of prey.
- For a unique shopping experience, head to the historic downtown area of Golden. Here you'll find a variety of shops and boutiques selling everything from handmade crafts to vintage clothing. Be sure to check out the Golden Quilt Company, which specializes in quilting fabrics and supplies, or Golden Goods, which sells locally-made products.
- If you're looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, check out the Colorado Model Railroad Museum. This museum features a collection of historic locomotives and railcars, as well as exhibits about the history of rail transportation in Colorado. You can even take a ride on a vintage steam locomotive and experience what it was like to travel by train in the early 20th century.
