Special District Elections Are Coming

Are you a Jeffco property owner & registered voter? If so, you are eligible to run for a board position on your local special district.

Many Jeffco citizens are unaware they reside within the jurisdiction of a special district. Every fire and water or park and recreation district operates under the direction of a nonpartisan board of directors that is elected by registered voters. Many residential developments operate as metro districts as well. These districts have the power to levy taxes and incur debt on behalf of their residents. Decisions are made by the elected board, which is staffed by citizens like you. With more than 300 special district boards to staff, citizen involvement is essential.

The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County (https://lwvjeffco.org)

has compiled a listing of documents on its website to clarify district details. Simply click on the “Voter Resources” tab. It includes an introduction to special districts, how to find your district, how to access important dates, a board member handbook and what’s to be learned from frequently asked questions.
