2 Injured In Small Plane Crash On CO-470 In Douglas County

Both the northbound and southbound on-ramps from Interstate 25 to Highway 470 eastbound were closed Tuesday following the crash.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO — Two people suffered minor injuries in a small plane crash Tuesday afternoon in Douglas County, fire officials said. A portion of Highway 470 closed as emergency crews responded.

Both the northbound and southbound on-ramps from Interstate 25 to Highway 470 eastbound were closed around 2:30 p.m., officials said. Highway 470 eastbound was also closed at Peoria.

The aircraft was inbound to Centennial Airport before it crashed on the highway and caught on fire, officials said. By 3 p.m., the fire was under control, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.

The two people who were in the aircraft were able to safely get out of the plane, and they were treated by paramedics for minor injuries, the agency said.

The plane is a Cessna P210N single-engine, six-passenger aircraft that was flying north and went down just south of Centennial Airport, fire officials said.

Hazmat crews were working on getting the remaining fuel out of the plane, Colorado State Patrol said. As of 4 p.m., it was unclear when CO-470 would reopen.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, the agency said.
